Happy New Year!

We decided to do something different this year for New Year's Eve. We went downtown for Pittsburgh's First Night. We knew it was going to be cold, so we wore extra layers. We thought we would go to dinner and then go see what Pittsburgh had to offer. When we got downtown, it started to snow. It was really cold. The windchill was about 8 that night. I didn't know if we would make it until midnight. It was about 6 o'clock when we got there. But, the kids were troopers and it helped that we found a warm restaurant.

There was a really weird puppet parade. It was quite creepy. This is just a taste.

Later in the evening, we went to hear a bagpipe band in the local Presbyterian Church. They were great. These are the tenor drummers being all flashy.

After the bagpipes, we went and had the richest hot chocolate ever. The Culinary Institute was selling homemade goodies, soup, and hot chocolate. It was yummy and it was soooooo cold outside. We stopped and I got some flashing 2009 glasses for all of us to wear.

Steve decided that the two hats I gave him to wear wouldn't work and didn't wear anything. Needless to say, he was freezing. Luckily Nick didn't need the scarf he brought, so Steve wrapped it around his head. What a dork! The glasses make the whole dork look don't you think?
We ran into some families from church and decided to join them afterward. We left downtown just before midnight because it was FREEZING! We had boots on and we still couldn't feel our toes. So even though we probably won't go down there again unless it's in the 60's, ha ha, we did have a Happy New Year because we were all together. We wish everyone a very prosperous 2009.

Did you take this with your new camera Kristy? Obviously it works in bitter cold. We just got Dyann's and now the penalty of learning. You folks are tough. Really touch! - Love - uncle darrell
